Peanut may be big enough to keep up with her siblings outside… but that doesn’t mean she’s tall enough to keep the burrs out of her hair. Just like any hard earned battle wound, she wore it with pride. No worries, the DW had her cleaned up and back outside in minutes.

This year’s event wraps up today. As part of the radiothon, the station brings in a number of parents and children that have experienced […]

The End of an Era
Posted by The Dirt Road Home in Tuesday, December 29th 2015 under: Peanut
No one leave their comment yetShortly before Christmas, Peanut had her quarterly check up at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. The quick summary: Peanut is doing phenomenal! Maybe the most telling sign is the progress on her growth chart. When Peanut was born, and for several months after, she was in the bottom 1% on the growth chart for […]

BLT Pizza
Posted by The Dirt Road Home in Wednesday, October 21st 2015 under: Food, Peanut
No one leave their comment yetPeanut has been on a bit of an anti-red-sauce rampage lately. Spaghetti? Not with red marinara. Pizza? Not with red pizza sauce. Enchiladas? Not with red enchilada sauce. See the pattern? She’s three, it’ll pass. In the mean time, it’s given us a reason to look for some new recipes in place of some our […]

An Update on Peanut
Posted by The Dirt Road Home in Monday, September 14th 2015 under: Peanut
No one leave their comment yetIt had been over 4 months since Peanut’s last visit to UIHC in Iowa City, so the DW and I were understandably a little anxious for Peanut’s most recent check-up at the end of August. The visit turned out to be one of Peanut’s best check-ups yet. Her doctor was so happy with how Peanut […]

No one leave their comment yetA little late posting this, but we got to bring Peanut home from the hospital late Thursday! It’s been busy, busy ever since with homecare nurse visits/lab draws, and getting back into the routine of setting up and priming her TPN/Lipids tubes and getting her connected and disconnected from her IV pumps. She is currently […]

PICC Line Placed…
Posted by The Dear Wife in Saturday, March 28th 2015 under: Peanut
No one leave their comment yetPeanut had a picc line successfully placed in her upper right arm yesterday afternoon. She was tentatively scheduled to come home today, however, she spiked a pretty high fever late last night. Since the risk for infection is so high with a central line, they immediately started intravenous antibiotics, ran labs, and are running blood […]

Peanut Update
Posted by The Dear Wife in Friday, March 27th 2015 under: Peanut
No one leave their comment yetPeanut continues to struggle nutritionally, so until her intestines get back on track, she will go home on TPN (which is what she came home from the hospital on as an infant). She is still able to eat, but she’s just can’t absorb the nutrition. She is preparing to have a picc line placed today […]
